Paine Art Center Light Exhibit
The Paine Art Center in Oshkosh, WI Light Exhibit
The Paine Art Center has always been a beautiful space to host weddings, enjoy the gardens and explore. But it perhaps has never been quite as whimsical and magical as it is currently!
On a whim, my family decided purchase tickets and take a trip down to the exhibit the second night it was open.
YOU. ALL....
I would go every night of the week! Between the 6 of us, I believe we said, "oh my gosh, this is MAGICAL!" no less than a hundred times. The lights, the music, the ambiance... it all snowballed together to set a scene that, in my opinion, rivals the enchantment of the night parade at the Magic Kingdom.
I said what I said.
The spectacle created by the light shining through the negative space is equally as impressive as the artwork itself. This hands-on, interactive, immersive experience was created by artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk in collaboration with an experimental lighting and design practice called Lightswitch.
The Nature of Light: An Exploration After Dark is a one-time-only exhibition at the Paine as is the largest presentation of HYBYCOZO sculptures ever displayed in a single space! Aaaannndd in case you're like me and didn't already know, HYBYCOZO stands for 'Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone': a nod to the artists' favorite book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Tickets are currently half the price through September 8th. Whether you go before or after that date, it is worth every penny and then some. Find tickets here. After experiencing the exhibit myself, I'm looking into becoming a Paine Art Center member with a family membership (if you are planning on going more than once per year, you have already made your money back and are contributing to more wonderful programming!) See details on becoming a member here.
I am also planning a field trip for the students at the school where I teach art.
I firmly believe everyone that can, should and must see this exhibit!
I mean it... Why are you even still reading this!? Watch the video again if you need more convincing and then go reserve your tickets already!!
and P.S. bring your camera
